Sex education of the family physician
Abstract:
The degree to which sexual conflicts enter the areas of assessment and treatment considerations depends on the family physician's willingness and professional know-how in recognizing sexual motivations in symptom causation. As the physician is not trained to do this, his sex education is essentially a remedial program leading to the development of a philosophy which will enable him to accept the feelings, values and uncertainties related to various forms of sexual behavior and to the understanding of the why, when, what and how of obtaining and utilizing sexual information for the benefit of the patient and his family.
