In patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), CD8(+) effector memory T cells (T(EM)) decrease in blood but increase in urine during active kidney disease. These T(EM) cells may indicate renal activity in SLE.

Purpose of the Study:

- The findings support the migration of CD8(+) effector memory T cells from peripheral blood to the kidneys in active renal SLE.
- Increased T(EM) cells in urine may serve as a novel biomarker for renal activity in SLE patients.
- Further research can elucidate the specific role of these migrating T cells in lupus nephritis pathogenesis.
