Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Medical Device Technology
  • Electrophysiology

Background:

  • Definitive cardiac stimulation involves precise probe placement.
  • Involuntary ventricular transseptal trajectories are a potential, though rare, complication during implantation.

Observation:

  • A case where a stimulation probe's unintended transseptal trajectory into the left ventricle went unnoticed during implantation.
  • The misplacement was later identified due to subsequent complications.

Findings:

  • Transseptal probe misplacement into the left ventricle can occur during cardiac stimulation implantation.
  • This complication can remain latent and manifest later, leading to adverse events.

Implications:

  • Highlights the need for vigilance during cardiac stimulation probe implantation.
