Overweight and obesity significantly increased in individuals with Type 1 diabetes over 18 years. Intensive insulin therapy and certain diabetes complications predicted weight changes in this T1DM cohort.

- Intensive insulin therapy increased from 7% to 82%; predictors of weight change included higher HbA1c, autonomic neuropathy, nephropathy, and intensive insulin therapy.
Conclusions:
- Dramatic weight gain observed in T1DM.
- Weight change in T1DM is complex and influenced by multiple factors.
