Metastatic cutaneous carcinosarcoma to the tongue

Background:

• Carcinosarcoma is a rare malignant neoplasm characterized by both carcinomatous and sarcomatous components.
• Metastasis of carcinosarcoma to the oral cavity, specifically the tongue, is exceptionally uncommon.

Observation:

• An 84-year-old female presented with a rapidly enlarging tongue mass.
• A history of occipital skin carcinosarcoma resection 9 months prior was noted.
• Histopathological examination confirmed the tongue mass as carcinosarcoma.

Findings:

• Positron Emission Tomography (PET) revealed widespread metastatic disease.
• The patient succumbed to the aggressive malignancy two months post-diagnosis.

Implications:

• This case represents the first documented instance of carcinosarcoma metastasizing to the tongue.
• Treatment challenges for aggressive oral cavity metastases are highlighted, underscoring the need for further research.
