Bilateral congenital atresia. Auditory and vestibular testing and surgical approach

Bilateral congenital atresia presents various problems of hearing, education, psychology and surgery. The complexity of these problems needs a systematic approach, from the initial evaluation to the rehabilitative recommendation. It is very important for infants and children with bilateral aural atresia to be provided with sufficient hearing either through surgical correction of the ear or by a hearing aid or both because bilateral aural atresia gives moderate hearing loss. This paper describes our preoperative assessment of auditory and vestibular function at very early age and the surgical technique for meatoplasty.
