Summary

Laparoendoscopic single-site simple nephrectomy (LESS-SN) offers a cosmetic advantage over conventional laparoscopic simple nephrectomy (CTL-SN) with faster recovery and less pain. While more expensive, LESS-SN provides excellent cosmetic outcomes.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences were observed in operative time, blood loss, transfusion rates, or hospitalization duration between LESS-SN and CTL-SN.
  • Patients undergoing LESS-SN reported a significantly shorter time to return to normal activities (10.7 vs. 13.5 days).
  • LESS-SN demonstrated significantly lower pain scores and analgesic requirements during the initial postoperative period, with excellent cosmetic results and no complications in either group.

Conclusions:

  • LESS-SN is a safe and effective alternative to CTL-SN, offering a minimally invasive option with improved cosmesis.
  • The procedure allows for concealment of the surgical incision within the umbilicus.
  • Larger studies are needed to confirm benefits in pain, recovery, and cosmesis.
