The stigma of port-wine stains

Patients with port-wine stains are now able to receive treatment to improve significantly their birthmark. Questionnaire studies of these patients have revealed considerable psychological distress. This article reviews the nature of that distress and the stigmatization suffered by patients with disfiguring birthmarks.
