Lenz's Law01:15

Lenz's Law

The direction in which the induced emf drives the current around a wire loop can be found through the negative sign. However, it is usually easier to determine this direction with Lenz's law, named in honor of its discoverer, Heinrich Lenz (1804–1865). Lenz's law states that the direction of the induced emf drives the current around a wire loop always to oppose the change in magnetic flux that causes the emf.
If a bar magnet is moved toward a coil such that the magnetic flux through the coil...

Summary
This summary is machine-generated.

Lysenkoism had minimal impact on Polish botany, with most botanists rejecting the "new biology" despite political support. The theories were quickly abandoned after political changes in 1956.

Area of Science:

  • Botany
  • Genetics
  • History of Science

Background:

  • Traces the development of plant genetics in Poland and attitudes toward Marxist philosophy before WWII.
  • Examines the introduction and fall of Lysenkoism in Polish science, particularly botany, between 1939 and 1958.

Discussion:

  • Details the limited effects of Lysenkoism on Polish botanists and their research.
  • Highlights the general rejection of Lysenko's

Key Insights:

  • Lysenkoism, despite political backing and promotion by a select group, was largely unaccepted by the botanical community.
  • Botanists predominantly rejected Lysenko's theories, adhering to established genetic principles.

Outlook:

  • The abandonment of Lysenkoism in Poland was rapid following the political shifts after 1956.
  • This historical analysis provides insights into the resilience of scientific consensus against ideological pressures.
