Acute bowel morbidity after prostate brachytherapy with cesium-131

Background:

• Prostate brachytherapy (PB) using cesium-131 ((131)Cs) is a treatment for prostate cancer.
• Understanding the impact of (131)Cs PB on bowel function is crucial for patient management.

Purpose of the Study:

• To evaluate the severity and duration of bowel symptoms in men undergoing (131)Cs PB.
• To determine the time to resolution of these gastrointestinal side effects.

• A prospective, longitudinal study involving 142 patients treated with (131)Cs PB.
• Patients completed the Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite (EPIC) preoperatively and at 2 weeks, 1, 3, and 6 months post-procedure.
