Area of Science:

  • Neuroscience
  • Biomarker Discovery
  • Neurodegenerative Diseases

Context:

  • Current Alzheimer disease (AD) treatments are ineffective post-onset due to irreversible neuronal damage.
  • Existing medications offer only symptomatic relief, failing to halt AD's pathological progression.
  • Next-generation AD therapies aim to inhibit disease pathology, necessitating early diagnosis.

Purpose:

  • To highlight the need for predictive methods for Alzheimer disease onset.
  • To introduce APL1beta28 as a potential biomarker for early AD detection.
  • To emphasize the limitations of current AD diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

Summary:

  • Alzheimer disease (AD) diagnosis typically relies on clinical criteria and neuroimaging (SPECT, PET).
