Background:

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network (CTN) aims to test and implement effective drug abuse treatment models.
Multi-site clinical trials face challenges in ensuring the adoption of tested interventions into routine clinical practice.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore modifications in multi-site clinical trial technology to enhance intervention adoption.
To identify factors influencing the integration of new interventions into clinical practice.

Main Methods:

Qualitative research methods were employed.
Interviews were conducted with 42 participants across 8 organizational levels, from clinic staff to trial leaders.
Data were collected on participants' roles, trial-clinic interactions, and intervention adoption processes.

Main Results:

Only one out of eight participating clinics successfully adopted the tested intervention.
Analysis revealed four key conceptual themes impacting intervention adoption.
Findings highlight the critical need for strategic planning in multi-site trials.

Conclusions:

Early-stage planning for adoption during protocol development is crucial for successful intervention integration.
Modifying multi-site clinical trial technology can improve the uptake of evidence-based practices.
Future multi-site trials can benefit from insights into adoption barriers and facilitators.
