Area of Science:

  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Background:

  • Uterine rupture is a rare but serious obstetric emergency.
  • Previous caesarean sections, particularly cervicocorporal, are a significant risk factor.

Observation:

  • Two cases of uterine rupture during pregnancy prior to delivery are presented.
  • Case 1: Patient presented with bleeding, history of cervicocorporal caesarean section, and signed a non-consent form.
  • Case 2: Hospitalized patient, initial signs of uterine rupture indicated by fetal heart rate, history of caesarean section.

Findings:

  • Both patients required hysterectomy as a life-saving measure.
  • Despite the severity, the infant in Case 1 was successfully delivered and discharged in good health.
  • Fetal heart rate monitoring proved critical in identifying uterine rupture in Case 2.

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of vigilant monitoring in high-risk pregnancies, especially with a history of caesarean section.
  • Emphasizes the need for prompt surgical intervention in cases of suspected uterine rupture.
  • Demonstrates that successful fetal outcomes are possible even in severe maternal emergencies.
