    Internal osteosynthesis with tissue preservation achieved high bone healing rates (96.7%) in 149 patients with non-union bone fractures. This surgical approach offers a promising solution for treating complex fractures.

    Area of Science:

    Background:

    • Non-union bone fractures present a significant clinical challenge.
    • Internal osteosynthesis is a common surgical treatment modality.

    Observation:

    • This study evaluated 149 patients undergoing internal osteosynthesis with inter-fracture tissue preservation.
    • The majority of cases involved tibia pseudarthrosis (72.5%), treated with plate fixation.
    • Operations were performed when the risk of infection was minimal.

    Findings:

    • A high bone adhesion rate of 96.7% was achieved in the study group.
    • Complications were infrequent, including osteomyelitis (1), skin necrosis (2), and fragment dislocation (2).
    • In comparison, internal osteosynthesis with tissue dissection in 439 patients resulted in an 87.2% adhesion rate.
