Three new hybrid polymeric iodoplumbates incorporating morpholine and its derivatives were synthesized. These materials exhibit semiconductor properties and nonlinear optical (NLO) activities, paving the way for advanced optoelectronic applications.
Area of Science:
- Materials Science
- Inorganic Chemistry
- Crystallography
Background:
- Hybrid organic-inorganic materials offer tunable properties.
- Polymeric iodoplumbates are of interest for their electronic and optical characteristics.
Purpose of the Study:
- Synthesize and structurally characterize novel hybrid polymeric iodoplumbates.
- Investigate their semiconductor and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties.
Main Methods:
- Chemical synthesis of three hybrid compounds.
- Single-crystal X-ray diffraction for structural determination.
- Characterization of semiconductor and NLO properties.
Main Results:
- Successfully synthesized and structurally determined three hybrid polymeric iodoplumbates: {(Pb(4)I(15))[(Mph·H)(3)(Mph·1.5H)(2)]}(n)(1), {(edm-H(2))(Pb(3)I(8))]·2DMF}(n)(2), and {(edm-H(2))[(dmp)(Pb(4)I(12))]˙2DMF}(n)(3).
- Observed varying degrees of interaction between morpholine derivatives and polymeric iodoplumbate frameworks, leading to 1D chains, 2D layers, and complex templating.
- Confirmed semiconductor behavior and detected third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) activities in compounds 1 and 3.
Conclusions:
- The rational design of hybrid iodoplumbates allows for the construction of diverse structural architectures.
- These novel materials demonstrate promising semiconductor and NLO properties, suggesting potential applications in optoelectronics.

Structural Isomerism
Isomers are different chemical species that have the same chemical formula. Structural isomerism of coordination compounds can be divided into two subcategories, the linkage isomers and coordination-sphere isomers.
Linkage isomers occur when the coordination compound contains a ligand that can bind to the transition metal center through two different atoms. For example, the CN− ligand can bind through the carbon atom or through the nitrogen atom. Similarly, SCN− can be...

Alkyl Halides
Alkyl halides are halogen-substituted alkanes wherein one or more hydrogen atoms of an alkane is replaced by a halogen atom such as fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine. The carbon atom in an alkyl halide is bonded to the halogen atom, which is sp3-hybridized and exhibits a tetrahedral shape.
Unlike alkyl halides, compounds in which a halogen atom is bonded to an sp2 -hybridized carbon atom of a carbon-carbon double bond (C=C) are called vinyl halides. Whereas aryl...
