Abstract:
In this report, we present a case of postneurosurgical meningitis due to Providencia stuartii, which was treated successfully with meropenem therapy lasting 21 days.
Insights
This case report details a successful meropenem treatment for postneurosurgical meningitis caused by Providencia stuartii. The 21-day meropenem therapy effectively resolved this rare bacterial meningitis.
Area of Science:
- Infectious Diseases
- Neurosurgery
- Microbiology
Background:
- Postneurosurgical meningitis is a serious complication following brain surgery.
- Providencia stuartii is an opportunistic pathogen that can cause healthcare-associated infections.
Observation:
- A patient developed meningitis after neurosurgery.
- The causative agent was identified as Providencia stuartii.
Findings:
- Successful treatment of Providencia stuartii meningitis was achieved with meropenem.
- A 21-day course of meropenem was administered.
Implications:
- Meropenem is an effective therapeutic option for Providencia stuartii meningitis.
