Summary

Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) is a potential biomarker for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Elevated MMP-9 levels correlate with stroke severity, larger infarcts, poorer outcomes, and predict hemorrhage risk in patients receiving thrombolytic therapy.
