Background:

Community-oriented practice presents unique challenges in undergraduate nursing education.
Conveying the complex, interrelated aspects of community nursing requires innovative teaching methods.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate a modified problem-based learning (PBL) unit incorporating virtual nursing internships.
To assess the effectiveness of this approach in teaching community nursing concepts to undergraduate students.

Main Methods:

A quasi-experimental study involving 184 accelerated, second-degree nursing students.
Implementation of a modified PBL unit with virtual nursing internships over two academic quarters.

Main Results:

The modified PBL approach with virtual internships demonstrated positive outcomes.
Findings suggest this method is effective in conveying the interrelatedness of community nursing practice.

Conclusions:

Modified problem-based learning combined with virtual internships shows significant promise for nursing education.
This innovative pedagogical strategy can enhance student understanding of community nursing.
