Two novel triterpenoids, ursa-12-sene-3β,11β-diol 3-O-palmitate and ursa-12-sene-1β,3β,11α-triol 3-O-palmitate, were identified from Viburnum betulifolium. These compounds, along with a derivative, were characterized using advanced spectroscopic techniques.
Area of Science:
- Natural Product Chemistry
- Phytochemistry
- Organic Chemistry
Background:
- Viburnum betulifolium is a plant species with potential for novel compound discovery.
- Triterpenoids are a diverse class of natural products with various biological activities.
- Isolation and characterization of new compounds contribute to the understanding of plant secondary metabolites.
Purpose of the Study:
- To isolate and characterize new triterpenoids from the aerial parts of Viburnum betulifolium.
- To elucidate the structures of the isolated compounds using spectroscopic methods.
- To identify a novel diene derivative of an isolated triterpenoid.
Main Methods:
- Extraction of plant material using 70% aqueous acetone.
- Isolation of compounds using chromatographic techniques.
- Structure elucidation via 1D NMR, 2D NMR, and High-Resolution Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS).
Main Results:
- Two new triterpenoids, ursa-12-sene-3β,11β-diol 3-O-palmitate (1) and ursa-12-sene-1β,3β,11α-triol 3-O-palmitate (2), were successfully isolated.
- An artificial diene derivative of compound 2, ursa-12-dien-1β,3β-diol 3-O-palmitate (2a), was also identified.
- Comprehensive spectroscopic data confirmed the structures of the novel compounds.
Conclusions:
- The study successfully identified and characterized two new triterpenoids from Viburnum betulifolium.
- The findings expand the known chemical diversity of triterpenoids in this plant species.
- The characterized compounds represent potential leads for further phytochemical and pharmacological investigations.
