Summary

Solid pseudopapillary tumours (SPTs) are rare pancreatic neoplasms. This study reports a unique case of an SPT occurring in the transverse mesocolon without heterotopic pancreatic tissue in an adolescent female.

Background:

  • Solid pseudopapillary tumours (SPTs) are rare neoplasms typically originating in the pancreas.
  • Extrapancreatic SPTs are exceptionally uncommon and often associated with heterotopic pancreatic tissue.

Observation:

  • This report details an unusual case of an 18-year-old female patient.
  • The patient presented with a solid pseudopapillary tumour arising from the transverse mesocolon.

Findings:

  • The tumour was located in the transverse mesocolon, a site rarely associated with SPTs.
  • Crucially, no evidence of heterotopic pancreatic tissue was found in the vicinity of the tumour.

Implications:

  • This case expands the known anatomical locations for solid pseudopapillary tumours.
  • It highlights the possibility of SPTs developing in extranatomic sites without the presence of heterotopic pancreatic tissue.
  • Further research may be warranted to understand the pathogenesis of such extrapancreatic SPTs.
