A novel sampling determination procedure effectively identified the best-fit model for heterogeneous variance in Spanish Pirenaica cattle weight data. The Heterogeneous Variance Animal Model proved most accurate, yielding estimated heritabilities of 0.489 for males and 0.331 for females.
