Summary

Mdx mice, a model for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, exhibit plantarflexion contractures. This study developed methods to measure these contractures and analyzed muscle composition in mdx mice.

  • Mdx mice showed reduced dorsiflexion and increased passive torque compared to wild type.
  • An increased passive-to-active torque ratio was observed in mdx mice.
  • Gastrocnemius muscles in mdx mice had increased wet mass, decreased protein, and elevated collagen.

Conclusions:

  • Mdx mice exhibit plantarflexion contractures, mirroring those in human Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients.
  • The developed measurement techniques can be utilized in future studies to evaluate therapeutic strategies for contractures.
