Background:

  • Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (XGC) is a rare chronic gallbladder inflammation that mimics gallbladder cancer (GBC).
  • The premalignant potential of XGC remains unknown.
  • This study compares protein expression in XGC, GBC, and chronic cholecystitis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression of p53, PCNA, and beta-catenin in Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (XGC).
  • To differentiate XGC from gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) and chronic cholecystitis based on molecular markers.
  • To assess the potential premalignant nature of XGC.

  • Immunohistochemical staining for p53, PCNA, and beta-catenin on surgically resected gallbladder tissues.
  • Quantification of p53 and PCNA expression levels.
