Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze hospitalized IBD cases initially classified as indeterminate colitis (IC) or inflammatory bowel disease unclassified (IBDU).
  • To evaluate the utility of the IBDU classification in managing diagnostic uncertainty in IBD.

  • Retrospective analysis of 477 hospitalized IBD patients' medical records (January 2002 - April 2009).
  • Re-evaluation of all available endoscopic biopsies.
