Abstract:
Infections in cell cultures are a real risk in cell transplantation. Infections in the recipient may be fatal, particularly if the recipient is immune suppressed. Good manufacturing practice quality system enables to minimize the risks. Careful testing of the cell donors for human pathogens, selection of optimally xeno-free traceable chemically defined culture media and supplements, using meticulous validated laboratory procedures, and testing the produced cell population for possible infectious agents before transplantation are the ways to avoid infections.
