Abstract:
A successful diaphragmatic hernia repair, i.e. fundoplication, will significantly improve the quality of life of a symptomatic reflux patient. Complications after fundoplication are quite rare, but should be considered when planning a long-term treatment for a gastroesophageal reflux disease patient, and the patient must also be informed about the risk of complications. When the indications for surgery are stringent enough, it is clearly easier for the patient to accept a potential complication and its consequences. The number of operations per doctor must be kept large enough in order to reduce the complication risk.
