Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine the frequency of use of 11 physical activity locations among children in San Diego.
  • To explore associations between the number and type of locations used, children's physical activity levels, and potential correlates.
  • To investigate potential ethnic disparities in physical activity location use and its relationship with vigorous physical activity (VPA).

  • A cross-sectional study involving 539 children (mean age 6.6 years) in San Diego.
  • Parents reported weekly visits to 11 PA locations.
  • Child PA was objectively measured using accelerometry in a subsample (n=178).

  • Interventions addressing parental support for physical activity could increase children's engagement with diverse PA environments.
  • Targeted strategies may be needed to address disparities in physical activity location use among Latino children.
