Summary

The calcaneo-stop procedure effectively corrects severe flexible pediatric flatfoot with high patient satisfaction and no complications. This minimally invasive technique shows promising short-term results in improving foot alignment and weight distribution.

Background:

  • Flexible flatfoot is a common pediatric foot deformity.
  • Percutaneous arthroereisis using sinus tarsi screw implantation is a treatment option.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the pedographic outcomes of percutaneous arthroereisis with a sinus tarsi screw for flexible flatfoot in children.

Main Methods:

  • 43 calcaneo-stop procedures in 25 children were assessed.
  • Evaluations included patient satisfaction, Meary's angle, and dynamic pedography.
  • Mean follow-up was 9.7 months in children with a mean age of 10 years.

Main Results:

  • High patient satisfaction (excellent/good in 95% of cases).
  • Significant correction of heel valgus and Meary's angle.
  • Pedographic analysis showed improved weight distribution to lateral foot regions.

Conclusions:

  • The calcaneo-stop procedure is a safe and effective treatment for severe flexible pediatric flatfoot.
  • Short-term results are comparable to other arthroereisis methods.
  • Long-term outcomes and implant removal effects require further study.
