Drug elimination from the body primarily occurs through metabolic and excretion pathways. Hepatic metabolism transforms lipophilic drugs into hydrophilic forms for excretion, typically via enzymatic processes classified as phase I (modification) and phase II (conjugation). Renal excretion eliminates drugs and metabolites through filtration and secretion in the kidneys. Summary

Amoxicillin alone, a common antibiotic, can cause drug-induced hepatitis, even when used prophylactically. This case highlights a rare but serious side effect not typically listed in Danish medical references.

Observation:

  • A 61-year-old male patient received amoxicillin without clavulanic acid for prophylactic treatment following a tick bite.
