Background:

The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) revised its standards in 2007.
Pharmacy curricula require updates to meet evolving educational standards and prepare students for practice.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the effect of ACPE Standards 2007 implementation on pharmacy students' readiness for their first Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE).

Main Methods:

A Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum was modified to include introductory experiences, enhanced therapeutics, integrated practice, and updated content per ACPE Standards 2007.
Faculty evaluated nine student behaviors during the initial weeks of APPE and compared outcomes to pre-revision data from 2004.

Main Results:

Students who completed the revised curriculum exhibited all nine assessed behaviors more frequently.
The revised curriculum group achieved higher average scores on observed clinical behaviors compared to the pre-revision group.

Conclusions:

Curricular changes made to align with ACPE Standards 2007 positively influenced students' clinical behaviors at the start of experiential education.
The updated curriculum effectively enhanced student preparation for advanced pharmacy practice.
