Summary

Traumatic manubriosternal dislocation is rare. A novel stapling technique for open reduction successfully treated an unstable posterior dislocation, showing excellent results without complications.

Background:

Traumatic manubriosternal dislocation is an uncommon injury.
Surgical treatment options are sparsely documented in existing literature.

Observation:

A 50-year-old female presented with an unstable posterior manubriosternal joint dislocation due to direct trauma.
The injury involved significant disruption of the manubriosternal articulation.

Findings:

An open reduction was performed to address the dislocation.
The manubriosternal joint was stabilized using a fixation technique involving two staples.
This represents a novel application of stapling for this specific injury.

Implications:

This alternative stapling technique offers a potentially effective method for managing traumatic manubriosternal dislocations.
The successful outcome suggests this approach may be a viable surgical option.
Further research could explore the long-term efficacy and broader applicability of this technique.
