Summary

This study reports a rare mandibular osteoma in a patient with a history of traumatic injury. Surgical treatment was successful, confirming trauma as a potential cause for this benign bone tumor.

Background:

Osteomas are benign bone tumors, typically slow-growing and composed of mature bone.
While common in the paranasal sinuses, osteomas of the mandible, particularly the buccal plate, are rare.
Etiologies proposed for osteomas include congenital factors, inflammation, muscle activity, embryogenesis, and trauma.

Observation:

A case of a mandibular osteoma on the buccal plate is presented.
The osteoma's location corresponded to a site of a sports-related traumatic injury sustained 15 years prior.
Diagnosis and surgical planning utilized conventional and 3D X-ray imaging.

Findings:

Surgical excision of the mandibular osteoma was performed without complications.
