Summary

Topiramate, used for migraine headaches, can cause dissociative episodes. These symptoms resolved after discontinuing the medication, with no recurrence during follow-up.

Background:

Topiramate is a medication prescribed for conditions including migraine headaches.
Psychiatric and neurocognitive side effects are known potential adverse events associated with topiramate use.

Observation:

A case study involving a 21-year-old female patient treated with topiramate for migraines.
The patient experienced episodes of dissociation, a psychiatric side effect.
Dissociative episodes correlated with topiramate dosage, increasing with higher doses and decreasing with lower doses.

Findings:

Topiramate treatment was associated with dose-dependent dissociative episodes in a young woman.
Discontinuation of topiramate led to the complete resolution of dissociative symptoms.
A 23-week follow-up confirmed no relapse of these side effects after stopping the medication.
