Exercise Stress Test

Introduction
Exercise stress testing, commonly known as a treadmill test, is a noninvasive procedure used to evaluate cardiovascular function and diagnose heart conditions.
Definition
An exercise stress test measures the heart's response to exertion using a treadmill or stationary bicycle. Chest electrodes record the heart's electrical activity through an ECG, and blood pressure is monitored regularly.

Background:

Commercial truck drivers face unique occupational challenges impacting health.
Limited research exists on the exercise behaviors and barriers specific to this population.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate exercise habits and perceived barriers among commercial truck drivers.
To identify factors associated with exercise participation and obesity in this demographic.

Main Methods:

Convenience sample of 300 commercial truck drivers.
Survey assessing exercise frequency, type, duration, and perceived barriers.
Calculation of Body Mass Index (BMI) to determine obesity prevalence.

Main Results:

Nearly 20% of drivers did not exercise in the past week; 93.3% were overweight or obese (BMI ≥ 25).
Drivers with higher BMIs perceived exercise environments negatively.
Health conditions and time spent in truck during off-duty hours were associated with reduced exercise.

Conclusions:

Commercial truck drivers exhibit poor exercise habits and high obesity rates.
Lack of time and suitable exercise locations are primary barriers.
Interventions should address environmental and time constraints to promote physical activity in this workforce.
