Summary

Metastatic breast carcinoma can spread to the ovaries, leading to bilateral ovarian tumors. This case highlights the importance of considering metastatic disease in ovarian masses, even with a history of breast cancer.

  • A 58-year-old woman with a history of breast carcinoma presented with bilateral ovarian tumors.
  • Ovarian tumors can arise from primary ovarian cancer or metastatic disease.

Observation:

  • Fine needle aspiration cytology revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma.
  • Surgical specimens from hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy confirmed extensive metastatic carcinoma involving both ovaries.

Findings:

  • The patient's ovarian tumors were confirmed to be metastatic adenocarcinoma originating from her prior breast carcinoma.
  • Metastatic involvement of the ovaries from breast cancer is a recognized but less common presentation.
