Teleconsultations are emerging as a novel platform for medical education and professional development.
Understanding the dynamics of physician learning within these virtual collaborative environments is crucial for optimizing healthcare delivery.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore the conditions and mechanisms of physician learning during teleconsultations.
To analyze how collaborative work and medical discourse in teleconsultations contribute to knowledge acquisition and skill development.

Main Methods:

Analysis of 47 real-time video conferences, including 16 consultations between general practitioners (GPs) and specialists.
Examination of collaborative work and medical talk during patient-focused problem-solving scenarios.

Main Results:

Collaborative work in teleconsultations fosters a shared understanding of patient history and treatment plans.
The process of demanding, attributing, and sharing knowledge gaps acts as a catalyst for learning.
