Risk factors for postoperative ileus after urologic laparoscopic surgery

Postoperative ileus is a common complication after laparoscopic urologic surgery. Patients experiencing more perioperative complications, such as longer anesthesia duration and blood loss, face a higher risk of developing ileus.

- Prolonged anesthesia duration, perioperative complications, and greater blood loss were significantly correlated with the development of ileus.
- The modified Clavien classification emerged as an independent risk factor for POI (OR 5.372, P=0.001).
Conclusions:
- Postoperative ileus following laparoscopic urologic surgery is more prevalent in patients who encounter a higher number of perioperative complications.
- Managing and mitigating perioperative complications may be key to reducing the incidence of POI in these patients.
