Abstract:
Abstract Extract In the United States, for newly married couples with husband aged 23 and wife 21 who never divorce or re-marry after death of spouse, expectation of married life increased by 10·1 years between 1910 and 1965. Expectation of widowed life decreased by 3·2 years for husbands, but, despite large mortality declines for both sexes, increased by 1·8 years for wives. These and related data are shown in Table 1.
