Correlation between Serum Level of Antiepileptic Drugs and their Side Effects
Objectives:
The aim of the study is to investigate the relation between serum levels of anticonvulsants and their side effects.
Methods:
This is a prospective cross sectional hospital based study conducted at Al Shaab Teaching Hospital. 120 patients were included in the study. The AEDs used were phenytoin, phenobarbitone, carbamazibine, and sodium valproate.
Results:
The results showed that the side effects among the studied group were not uncommon.
Conclusion:
There was no relationship between serum levels of AEDs and their side effects.

Antiepileptic Drugs: Calcium Channel Blockers
Calcium channel blockers exert their antiepileptic effects by targeting T-type calcium channels, which are integral to transmitting nerve signals in the central nervous system. These channels allow the passage of calcium ions, which are vital for neuronal communication. By inhibiting T-type calcium channels, calcium channel blockers effectively reduce the release of neurotransmitters and...
