Summary

Ectopic teeth, particularly in young children, are rare and often lack a clear cause. This case report details an extremely unusual instance of an ectopic supernumerary tooth found in the oropharynx of a four-year-old boy.

Background:

  • Ectopic teeth, or teeth erupting in an abnormal position, are increasingly reported.

  • Associated conditions include cleft lip and palate, cleidocranial dysplasia, and Gardner syndrome.

Observation:

  • A rare case of an ectopic maxillary tooth in a 4-year-old boy is presented.
  • A concurrent case involved a young patient with a tooth located in the oropharynx, a highly unusual presentation.
  • The oropharyngeal tooth case is believed to be the first documented instance of an ectopic supernumerary tooth in this location with a non-traumatic etiology.
