[Guided tissue regeneration in periodontology: an overview]

Conventional periodontal treatment consisting of scaling and rootplaning with or without flap surgery, with or without bone grafting, does not lead to regeneration of the periodontium. Experiments based on the principle of guided tissue regeneration have shown that the formation of 'new attachment' is no longer impossible.
