[A case of choroidal osteoma detected by high-penetration optical coherence tomography]

Background:
Choroidal osteoma is a rare intraocular tumor, composed of mature bone tissue. We performed high-penetration optical coherence tomography (HP-OCT) on a patient with choroidal osteoma with serous retinal detachment(SRD).
Case:
A 49-year-old woman complained of visual loss OD. Best corrected visual acuity OD was 0.4. The right eye showed a yellowish white subfoveal lesion of 3 disc diameters in size. As computed tomography of the tumor showed choroidal calcification, the diagnosis of choroidal osteoma was made. HP-OCT demonstrated the structure of the tumor clearly, but normal choroidal vessels were not depicted. In addition, HP-OCT showed strong signals in the lamina choroidocapillaris, and no choroidal vessels were found in the parafoveal area of the left eye.
Conclusion:
A case of choroidal osteoma is presented. HP-OCT can detect structural changes in the choroidal lesions at an early stage of the disease.
