Summary

Patients with inflatable penile prostheses (IPP) undergoing prostate cryoablation for organ-confined prostate cancer experienced no device complications. Careful cryoprobe placement and avoiding suprapubic tubes are recommended for safety.

Background:

Organ-confined prostate cancer is a common diagnosis.
Erectile dysfunction often co-exists and may require penile prosthesis implantation.
Cryoablation is an established treatment for prostate cancer.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) complications after ultrasound-guided prostate cryoablation.
To assess the safety of cryoablation in patients with pre-existing IPPs.

Main Methods:

Retrospective review of 13 patients with IPPs treated with cryoablation.
Analysis of IPP-related complications within a 6-month postoperative period.
Ultrasound-guided cryoablation performed by a single surgeon.

Main Results:

No inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) device-related complications (infection, erosion, malfunction) were observed.
No patients required IPP revision or removal post-cryoablation.
The mean age of patients was 68 years.

Conclusions:

Ultrasound-guided prostate cryoablation is safe for patients with organ-confined prostate cancer and multiple-component inflatable penile prostheses (IPP).
Careful cryoprobe and thermocouple placement under ultrasound guidance is crucial.
Avoiding suprapubic tube placement can prevent inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) reservoir injury.
