Medical students can enhance their learning through voluntary dissection competitions. This popular event provides hands-on anatomy experience and produces valuable prosection materials for future classes.

When organisms require the same limited resources within an environment, they may have to compete for them. Competition is a net-negative interaction. Even if two competing individuals or populations do not interact directly, the overall fitness of both competitors is lowered as a result of not having full access to the limited resource.

To assess the feasibility and educational value of a voluntary cadaver dissection competition for third-year medical students.
To evaluate student engagement and the quality of learning outcomes from a dissection competition format.

Annual voluntary dissection competition held over a weekend.
Standardized distal upper or lower limb specimens provided for dissection.
Participants completed dissections within six hours and submitted a clinical relevance abstract.
Dissections were judged on presentation, accuracy, and clinical relevance.
