Cholecystitis01:20

Cholecystitis

Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder, most commonly caused by obstruction of the cystic duct. This blockage prevents bile from draining, leading to gallbladder distension, inflammation, and potentially serious complications. This condition may present acutely or chronically and can happen with or without gallstones.EtiologyAbout 95% of cholecystitis cases are calculous, caused by gallstones blocking the cystic duct, leading to bile accumulation and inflammation of the gallbladder...

Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Pathology
  • Surgical Oncology

Background:

  • Steatocystoma multiplex is a rare benign adnexal tumor.
  • Giant variants and scrotal involvement are exceptionally uncommon.
  • Calcification within steatocystoma multiplex is a rare finding.

Observation:

  • A 60-year-old male presented with an atypical giant steatocystoma multiplex on the scrotum.
  • The lesion showed no familial history.
  • Clinical examination revealed a nodule with yellowish, creamy material expressed during punch biopsy.

Findings:

  • Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of steatocystoma multiplex.
  • The case was characterized by its giant size and scrotal location with calcification.
  • The patient had no family history of similar lesions.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of considering rare presentations of steatocystoma multiplex.
  • Surgical excision is an effective treatment for symptomatic or cosmetically concerning lesions.
  • Accurate diagnosis relies on integrating clinical and histological findings for optimal patient management.
