Summary

Patients on aspirin therapy with cardiac stents can safely undergo robot-assisted radical prostatectomy. Continuing aspirin did not increase bleeding or complications compared to stopping it for urologic surgery.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences in operative time, blood loss, hematocrit, or hospital stay were observed between groups.
  • Patients with cardiac stents (on or off aspirin) did not require postoperative transfusions or major interventions.
  • Nine patients without cardiac stents experienced significant complications.

Conclusions:

  • Continuing aspirin perioperatively appears safe for patients with cardiac stents undergoing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy.
  • Further research with larger sample sizes is needed to confirm these findings.
