Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop, pilot test, and evaluate a continuous professional development (CPD) process.
  • To assess the feasibility and value of a CPD process for first-year pharmacy students.

Main Methods:

  • A 4-step CPD cycle was implemented: objective identification, planning, learning activity, and outcome evaluation.
  • Students documented each step and received faculty advisor feedback.
  • Live training programs introduced the CPD process to students and faculty.

Main Results:

  • 100% of 75 first-year pharmacy students successfully completed the CPD process.
  • Students dedicated an average of 7 hours to the CPD activities.
  • 83% of faculty found the process valuable and recommended its continuation.

Conclusions:

  • Integrating a CPD requirement into pharmacy curricula is achievable and beneficial.
  • Effective and frequent training for both students and faculty is crucial for successful CPD implementation.
  • The CPD process fosters the development of vital lifelong learning skills in pharmacy students.
