Summary

A road traffic accident resulted in unusual glass foreign body placement in facial sinuses and orbit. Surgical removal using a combined approach proved effective for managing this rare facial trauma case.

Background:

  • Road traffic accidents (RTAs) can cause severe facial injuries.
  • Foreign body penetration into paranasal sinuses and orbit presents unique surgical challenges.

Observation:

  • Radiographs revealed multiple glass fragments in the left maxillary sinus, ethmoid sinus, nasopharynx, and medial orbit.
  • The glass distribution pattern was highly unusual.

Findings:

  • A combined surgical approach, utilizing the existing wound and endoscopic techniques, was employed.
  • Nearly all glass fragments were successfully removed.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of advanced imaging in diagnosing complex facial trauma.
  • Combined surgical approaches can effectively manage extensive foreign bodies in the sinonasal and orbital regions.
  • Successful management of such injuries can prevent long-term complications.
