High education, active leisure, and vascular health may protect against dementia for Apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 carriers. These factors delay dementia onset by about 1.2 years in carriers.

- APOE ε4 carriers with these protective factors exhibit dementia-free survival comparable to non-carriers.
