Summary

Context:

Online gambling is a growing concern with increasing numbers of gamblers.
Online pathological gambling is less understood than traditional forms.
It shares links with regular pathological gambling and internet addiction.

Purpose:

To evaluate depression, personality disorders, and internet addiction in online pathological gamblers.
To compare these factors between online and offline pathological gamblers.

Summary:

The study assessed 15 online and 15 offline pathological gamblers using the SOGS, BDI, PDQ-4, and IAT.
Results indicated a majority of participants had at least one personality disorder.
Online gamblers predominantly showed cluster C personality disorders (anxious/fearful), while offline gamblers showed more cluster B (dramatic/erratic).
Pathological gambling strongly correlated with depression, and online gambling correlated with internet addiction.

Impact:

Findings highlight distinct personality profiles in online versus offline gamblers.
Understanding these differences is crucial for developing targeted prevention and treatment strategies for online pathological gambling.
The study underscores the need for further research into the complex interplay between online gambling, offline gambling, internet addiction, and mental health comorbidities.
